Start 'em young!

It warms the cold, cold heart of an editor/Grandpa to see his 10-week-old granddaughter enjoying the Sunday paper!

No, those aren't TH comics. Unfortunately, Claire and her parents do not live in our circulation area. But better to read some newspaper than none at all.

Our industry's drive to attract younger readers must be working!

Good for you, and good for Claire! Introducing children to newspapers at a young age makes a difference in reading skill, vocabulary and sometimes (in my case) career choice. My parents subscribed to both the morning and afternoon newspaper (when Des Moines had the Register and Tribune). First I read the comics. Then I read a cartoon feature on the "women's page" called "Points for Parents." Then it was Ann Landers. Then obituaries. Then crime stories. By the time I was 9, I couldn't live without a newspaper.
